Chewing food is a complex process that involves the coordination of muscles in the mouth and jaw. When you take a bite of food, your teeth and tongue work together to break it down into smaller pieces. As you chew, saliva is released to help moisten the food and begin the process of digestion. The food is then moved around the mouth by the tongue to ensure that it is evenly chewed. Once the food is sufficiently broken down, it is ready to be swallowed and continue its journey through the digestive system. **
